Emotional Strength & Flexibility
You may be bendy & strong but can you change your mind?
MARCH 2019~ Change Your Brain
How far can you bend …your BRAIN to CHANGE your mind?!
What is your personal mantra for change this month?
“Be still like a mountain and flow like a great river.”
~ Lao Tzu
I realized (again) this weekend I don’t do so well when things don’t go as planned, especially, when I am the cause of the failed plans! My six year old and I came down with a sudden nasty stomach bug late Friday night into Saturday morning and amidst the illness and caring for my son (and myself) I also has to figure out how to cancel my full day of Saturday patients at 2am! Its 2am and my first patient is showing up at 8am!
I had to break some rules that I had created and didn’t know how to handle it. My hard and fast rule of NO text use for patient contact was challenged since it was hands down the best way to relay an emergency message. I fought the idea of going into to work anyway so as not to let people down….feeling terrible, possibly contagious….not a well thought idea. I have come across this feeling before of fighting what IS the right thing to do and what SEEMS to be the right thing all the while confusing it with work ethic, expectations, self pressure of responsibility and sticking to plan…no where in this equation is there any concept of SELF CARE~ FLEXIBILITY~ APPROPRIATE CHANGES UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES.
I talk about self care every day as a mom, as a friend, as a doctor, it is one of the key ingredients to our longevity and well being and when push comes to shove I was struggling with asking for help and shaming myself for having to call in sick. Am I crazy or just human?
Long story short my personal goal this month, to Rise to my truest potential and Shine light on areas where I can improve my approach to the world, is to learn how to expand my window of tolerance in the face of change, upset, discord.
My mantra for the next 40 days:
I can go with the flow. I can flow with the go!
This will be an exercise for my brain to feel strong and confident in the winds of change. So I can not only look the world in the eye to offer support and kindness, but to see myself in that picture, practice self care and set healthy boundaries.
How far can you bend …your BRAIN to CHANGE your mind?! What is your personal mantra for change this month?

Wish me luck!
